CASTILIAN MAGIC
CASTELLAMMARE, PACIFIC PALISADES, CA
A couple, two professional classical musicians from Manhattan, moved to the coastal bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The house, with simple Spanish architecture, lacked character. The outdoor space was small and mostly vertical. We organized the backyard area of the home into a series of rooms. We also looked to aged terracotta pavers, decorative Malibu tiles and an interesting blend of colorful tropical and drought tolerant plant pallets to add detail and instant charm. The design takes advantage of the entire backyard and includes areas for cooking, dining, inspired entertaining, and relaxing. The outdoor living area was centered around a colorful old-world tile fireplace. Moroccan lanterns accent the walls and add strong geometry, color, pattern and mood. Stone, tile, a vibrant colored water feature, and exotic flora work in concert to update this property into a charming alfresco home.
