SPANISH LORE

PALISADES VILLAGE, CA

This lively garden was created taking its cue from a 1920’s Spanish style Colonial home. Aged Saltillo pavers accented with Malibu tile lead the homeowner to a flagstone patio featuring a dramatic ceramic urn fountain and covered porch again fronted by Malibu tile. This is a landscape perfectly designed for the Southern California climate. The plant selection is custom-made for low-water efficiency while retaining a lush appearance. Particular attention way paid to mounding, textures, and a broad grey-green palette accented with colorful jewel-like blooms scheduled for year around pop. The backyard functions as additional al fresco living space. The teak dining table stands on a “tile” rug which is handcrafted, along with bricks accented with Malibu tile. The fireplace and living area provide an intimate gathering backdrop. The hearth of river rock is topped by an oak mantel and white stucco chimney, and colorful Morrocan lanterns dangling from olive trees giving the space a hacienda feeling.
